Feeding Therapy

Feeding therapy is a form of treatment used to assist infants and children who have difficulty sucking, chewing, feeding or swallowing.  Strategies suggested promote positive parent-child interactions, help children to become independent during mealtimes, and encourage ease of carryover.  

During your first appointment, a certified and licensed speech-language pathologist:

• Provides a comprehensive feeding and swallowing evaluation including the assessment of oral-motor structures and function, analysis of food repertoire, and behavioral analysis. 
• Provides caregivers with a list of recommendations and hands on strategies to implement at home immediately after the initial evaluation. 
• Works in close collaboration with other health care professionals such as the GI doctors, allergists, pediatricians, nutritionists, and others to deliver the most individualized care and treatment.
• Involves all members of the family throughout the process to encourage carryover of skills into the natural environment.
